Multimedia Story Draft

For my multimedia story, I have decided to write about Logan Flats, a nature trail in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, where I often take my dog for walks to switch up our routine. The walk is normally about 3km and is about a 30minute-1hour walk depending on how often my dog stops. We will most likely go mid-morning, so it isn’t too hot out for her, and it’s not busy with people before or after work. I will most likely use my phone to record media and sounds, and the only other things I need to bring is my water, and supplies for my dog such as her leash and poop bags. However, right now, there are lots of ticks at Logan Flats, so we will need to be careful about that, and hopefully go at a time when there are less ticks. After, I will likely use a tool such as Canva or another resource to create my final project on my computer.

I will be making a children’s story book, focusing on my dog’s adventure through the trail. It will focus on progression of the trail, and all the little things to spot and how my dog reacts, such as a pond, treed area, field, walking path. She is an anxious dog, so she will have big reactions to these things that are normal to me. The climax of the story will be her working through her fears, ending happy as she loves her walks!

I plan to follow Mayer’s Principles of Media learning in numerous ways. As it will be written as a children’s storybook, there won’t be an overbearing of information in any means, and it will be light-heartedly written, following the limited capacity principles. Following the dual coded theory, I will be using multiple sources of engagement, including pictures, words, and audio. Finally, it will be broken up and written with children in mind, making it a light, easy read. It will be written in a young reader friendly tone, in short, easy sentences, making it appropriate for all ages. It will not be too text heavy, making it easy to understand and process.
